This rather lovely ex-matrix crystal of Ferberite is from the tin deposit at C'novec/Zinnwald near to Erzgebirge and Krusn' Hory, an orebody which spans the border between Germany (Saxony) and the Czech Republic (Bohemia), hence its double-name. Ferberite is what used to be named Wolframite, but now specifically defines the iron-end member of the Ferberite-H'bnerite iron-manganese tungstate series. The metallic greyish-black crystal forms a 4.0 x 5.8 x 1.7 cm chisel-like blade with a 3 cm long sharp termination with stepped and horizontally striated prism faces. An excellent Ferberite crystal from the famous and classic C'novec/Zinnwald deposit.
