The Calumet iron mine in Turret District, Chaffee County, Colorado is a classic American locality for Epidote crystals, many of which were collected during the 1970s. This small cabinet specimen displays rich, deep olive green lustrous crystals of Epidote measuring to 5 mm, covering one surface of massive Epidote-Quartz rock. A thin, white, minutely botryoidal coating of Chalcedony infills spaces between the Epidote crystals, thus accentuating their presence with a strong contrast in colours. There is damage to some of the Epidote crystals on the display surface, but others are doubly-terminated and complete all around. A very nice Colorado Epidote and comes with an old, typed German collection label.
