A single, ex. matrix Epidote crystal from the famous occurrence at Knappenwand close to Salzburg in Austria. This deposit was discovered in 1865 where the Epidote crystals form in Alpine-type clefts where an aplite vein intersects a massive epidote-amphibolite zone. The crystal is mounted vertically on a small clear acrylic base and is an opaque and intensely dark green, appearing black when displayed. The crystal is near-perfect save for two small chips and all prism faces and the termination have a brilliant glassy lustre.
