This stunning large cabinet specimen of beautifully crystallised Epidote is from Gilgit in Pakistan, a district of bewitching mountainous beauty. This district is rich in minerals as it is mostly situated over the Kohistan Batholith. This amazing specimen measures 18 cm in length and reminds me of a fish; a rather spiny fish like a pike, stickleback or even a coelacanth. Epidote composes the matrix, forming an opaque, oily-lime green rib along the specimen’s length. This is overgrown by fine Epidote crystals often raked back at forty five degrees and occasionally projecting three dimensionally out from the plane of a largely flat specimen. Crystals projecting out from one of its long edges are transparent and gemmy. A delightful and showy Epidote from Gilgit.
