This splendid cluster of sub-parallel Enargite crystals is from the famous Butte mining district, now part of Silver Bow County in Montana, USA. Of the county’s 160 minerals, Enargite is ranked amongst the top four best examples of the species and one look at this large miniature indicates why. Standing 5 cm tall, the specimen is composed of three intergrown crystals with several minor Enargite crystals protruding from the base. The opaque black crystals are all nicely terminated with a characteristic flat pinacoid; they display prominent vertical striations and a highly reflective metallic lustre. The specimen is mounted, stood vertically, on a clear acrylic square base.
