A beautiful off-matrix Elbaite Tourmaline crystal with deep vertical striations on the three, slightly curved, prism faces. The specimen is from Kunar Province in Afghanistan. Many localities are known in this province but often the specimens are only labelled for the general district to protect their specific source. The majority of the crystal is vivid bluish-sea-green and is highly translucent with many internal clouded wisps. It is likely many zones within the crystal are gemmy, but this is difficult to quantify from the outside. The final 8 mm, including the mirror-smooth three faced termination, grades to a subtle violet. The entire crystal is glassy and lustrous. There are a few very minor nicks on the edges of the termination, but magnification is really required to see these. A splendid Afghan Elbaite and Ex Jesse Fisher and Joan Kurecka collection.
