Several gem bearing pegmatites lie in the Coronel Murta municipality of mid-eastern Brazil within the state of Minas Gerais. This ex-matrix Elbaite Tourmaline crystal measures 8.6 cm tall beginning with a fractured/cleaved base and ending in a perfect termination. Many of the Elbaite crystals from this pocket required repair following in-situ tectonically-induced damage, but this fine small cabinet specimen was found complete. The crystal is essentially many shades and hues of pink and displays three dimensional colour zoning rather than Tourmaline's characteristic horizontal banding. By this, the prism is concentrically coloured end on looking along the c-axes and displays both vertical and horizontal colour zoning in the prism faces. The main divide is a vertical shift from hot cerise pink to a translucent blueish-pale pink (across and not along the crystal). The prism is translucent throughout looks magnificent backlit.
