The pegmatites of Madagascar have been responsible for some of the world's largest Tourmaline crystals. Not always the most gemmy, they more than make up for this by their size and staggering variety in colour zonation. This statuesque 16 cm tall individual Elbaite crystal from Betafo District is also stocky, giving it 'presence'. Grading from very dark green throughout its lower half, it gradually shifts to pinks, cream and almost orange in its upper part. Complete all round, it displays classic tourmaline vertical growth lines and has a fine gradational stepped termination. This museum quality crystal demands to be a spectacular centrepiece on display. No repairs.
