We see many lovely tourmalines, some with exceptional colours, colour-zoning, or gem quality transparency. However, sometimes it is the specimens that show something entirely different that are the ones that catch ones eye the most. Standing like a firework rocket lit, and about to blast upwards, this eye-catching off-matrix Elbaite tourmaline crystal even has the colours to match - a fiery pink-red base and bottle-green upper prism. Fully terminated with a prominent classic three-sided pyramid the main body of the crystal is a very typical Elbaite tourmaline in form and below, the naturally etched narrow 'stem' gives the whole a sceptered form reminiscent of a rocket with flames firing out from its base. Displaying great translucency, with backlighting these bright colours really stand out stunningly well, making this 11.3 cm tall Aricanga mine piece an instant classic. Its termination is extremely sharp and undamaged and the lower part of the upper prism presents a really unusual silky appearance. It has two recorded repairs and a restoration, but is an absolute stunner and one of the larger crystals to come from this unique pocket. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic base allowing it to stand upright in its most dramatic pose.
