Like a colourful wand, this magnificent bi-colour terminated Elbaite tourmaline crystal is simply magical. At 14 cm in length it is on the larger size for individual crystals from the now famous modern Coronel Murta pegmatite discoveries in Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil but is pencil-thin. It has been repaired and restored as if often the case with the most spectacular gem tourmaline crystals, especially so those whose form is so delicate. I can count at least five individual repairs where the sections of the prism have been joined back together but the modern process is so precise and considered normal practice for tourmaline specimens. Restoration is where tiny missing gaps are infilled with optically identical resin. Transparent to translucent along its entire length this crystal is stunningly beautiful when illuminated with directional lighting. A magnificent intense teal blue for 95 percent of its length, its raspberry-red tip elevates its aesthetics to a seemingly impossible new level. If this was a wand, then the red termination would be it casting a spell. This termination is glassy and smooth, a main flat pinacoid face, but with three prominent sloping side faces. A stunningly beautiful tourmaline, with one of the most sought-after colour combinations, and sure to dazzle in any display cabinet. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic display stand, positioning the crystal perfectly upright in its most dramatic position.
