The combination of Dioptase and Dolomite on this small cabinet-sized specimen is really very lovely. Coming as it does, from the famous Weyand collection at Tsumeb, it has probably laid largely unseen for several decades. Upon it, a plate of white Calcite matrix is encrusted with a layer of extremely gemmy emerald-green Dioptase crystals which are themselves partially coated with finely crystallized pearlescent pale blue-green Dolomite. The Dioptase crystals reach 5 mm in length and sparkle brilliantly between the layers of Dolomite. Stood upright this makes for a very pretty display piece.
