Any mention of the rare lead zinc vanadate hydroxide mineral, Descloizite, usually involves the famous deposit at Berg Aukas, which operated from 1913 until 1978. This pure crystalline aggregate of large curved bladed Descloizite crystals has a very sculptural feel to it, or perhaps organic, but is not without damage, with some of the tips of crystals broken off. Individual crystals reach 1 cm in length, but as they form stacked aggregates, like scales extending outwards, they give the impression of being much larger. An absolute classic from Namibia, full of character, and rich for a species so rare on the world scale.
