A beautiful miniature specimen of Cuprite and Quartz from one of the most sought after Cornish occurrences - Phoenix United mines - and with great provenance. Over half of the specimen is composed of Cuprite, giving it a substantial 'dense' feel. The Cuprite forms aggregates of modified octahedral crystals exceptionally to 9 mm across, with a lovely deep purple colour, and submetallic lustre, contrasting superbly with the orange, white and grey colour of Quartz crystals which protrude from within at many angles. The specimen is accompanied by a lovely handwritten label from Col. John Wilson Rimington (1832-1909) a notable British mineral collector during the Victorian era.
