Chalcotrichite is the delicate hair-like acicular form of Cuprite (copper oxide). It is much rarer than massive or blocky crystallized forms of Cuprite and is much sought after wherever it is found. At Tsumeb mine it is especially rare and tends to form quite distinctive matted velvet-like coatings and layers which are notably orange-red in comparison with other occurrences of Chalcotrichite. This miniature specimen is especially well endowed with striking displays of Chalcotrichite within cavities in Quartz-rock. Ex Weyand collection.
