Fowey Consols was, during the the second half of the 19th century the premier locality in Cornwall and probably the world too, for the delicate, yet attractive, nest-like filiform red crystal form of Cuprite (copper oxide) known as Chalcotrichite. Most specimens were brought to market by the Cornish-based mineral dealer Richard Talling but this very rich miniature specimen does not record this. Displaying the classic, rusty, iron-stained gossanous brecciated Quartz veinstone, the Chalcotrichite forms beautiful blood-rich 'webs' of matted hair-like crystals in vugs. Ex Malcolm Southwood Collection.
