This fabulous miniature of exquisitely crystallised Cuprite from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia is associated with small, 1 mm crystals of greyish-cream Dolomite. The crystal quality of both species combines to create a stunning specimen which has been mounted vertically on a small acrylic base. The base is labelled simply as “Cuprite” together with its catalogue number, hinting as to its previous life in a famous modern collection of Tsumeb miniatures and thumbnails. The Cuprite forms as highly modified, cuboctahedral and dodecahedral crystals of intensely deep maroon red, appearing black from a distance. On close examination, hints of translucent vibrant red can be observed around the crystal edges. Under low magnification, sub-millimetre micro-crystals of deep emerald green Malachite are dotted here and there over the Cuprite surfaces. A magnificent miniature Cuprite from Tsumeb.
