This very large thumbnail Smithsonite from Tsumeb mine is the pale pink cobalt-bearing variety, but its real rarity comes from its crystal form. Comprising a small crystallized aggregate coating sulphide, two main crystals stand out as being very unusual in form - almost globular, but with clear crystal faces. These crystals reach 1.2 cm in diameter and display strikingly curved convex crystal faces. Internally, their pink colour is punctuated with a slightly orange core. The main crystal is intact all round and the second crystal is missing a small part of one edge where it reaches the edge of the specimen. A really usual Smithsonite form. Ex Weyand collection.
