Smithsonite comes in many varied forms at Tsumeb mine, with the pink Cobaltoan variety being one of the most eye-catching and desirable. This miniature specimen displays a rich coverage of sharply formed rhombic Cobaltoan Smithsonite crystals with a candy floss (or cotton candy) to salmon pink colour, almost reminiscent of some paler coloured Rhodochrosite. Indeed, like Rhodochrosite, the colour varies depending on the source of light. This is seen here between the photo and the video. The crystals are mostly around 5 mm in size and present a fine translucent to transparent appearance allowing the internal cleavage planes to be seen. The Cobaltoan Smithsonite sits upon a mixed sulphide matrix and is in great overall condition. A very pretty Tsumeb Smithsonite to brighten up your day.
