Tunaberg at Nyköping, Södermanland, Sweden is the king of Cobaltite occurrences. Known for centuries, the best crystals were found way back in the early 1800s but even smaller well-formed crystals were hard to obtain and extremely pricey. Most were off-matrix loose crystals, making display-worthy crystals on host rock even more desirable. This magnificent specimen is the finest I have ever seen for all round balance: featuring a 2 cm wide complex pseudocubic crystal with exceptional silvery bright metallic colour. It is perched perfectly for all round display at one end of the specimen which comes with a custom-made Sunnywood base to enhance its display. The crystal really is a crystallographic masterpiece, with the only blemish being chipping to one edge at the rear. From the display direction its is sensational. To add to its charm, it comes with an old handwritten label (shown in the video) using the old name Kobaltglanz and with the date 1863 recorded upon it.
