It is not very often at all that we see really well-crystallized Clinozoisite, with terminated 3-dimensional crystals. This is why this small cabinet-sized display specimen from San Cristobal District in Yauli Province, Junín Department, Peru is so interesting. Showing sharp prismatic crystals, to 3.5 cm in length, with classic monoclinic sloping, to wedge-shaped terminations, these wonderful crystals show their affiliation to Epidote (Clinozoisite being a member of the Epidote Group), but with the shift in colour to the more brown tones of Clinozoisite. Indeed, great Epidote crystals are rare, but great Clinozoisite crystals are rarer still. Attractively presented and with no obvious damage this Clinozoisite is world-class, but somewhat surprizingly this mountainous mining locality is little-known about to the outside world.
