Renowned for having produced the world's finest Chalcosiderite, this specimen from Wheal Phoenix shows exactly why the discoveries of the 1870s are so important. Cabinet in size, and display quality it is a Quartz and iron oxide-rich gossan richly infused with green crystallized Chalcosiderite lining cavities. Unusually, the Chalcosiderite shows a transition from very dark green glossy to glassy bladed and rosetted crystals to a paler green pearlescent form with other areas coated with rusty orange iron oxides. Under magnification the Chalcosiderite crystals are beautiful, but this piece is big and dramatic too.
