Locality
New Glencrieff Vein, Wanlockhead Dumfries & Galloway Scotland
Condition
No recorded repairs
A single brassy 6 x 4 x 3 mm Chalcopyrite crystal nestles on a matrix of sharp, creamy Dolomite crystals from the New Glencrieff Vein at Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Many more very tiny (sub-mm) Chalcopyrite crystals are scattered over the Dolomite. An attached paper label records the specimen having been collected in 1923 by W.M. (unknown collector). Although Dumfriesshire is now a historic county name, I personally would label the specimen thus, as this was the county name when the specimen was collected. This region of Scotland currently goes under the name Dumfries and Galloway.
