A nodular mound of sooty-black Chalcocite with a subtle patina of iridescent, metallic peacock blue and mauve with its front surface impressively covered in vertically-aligned Chalcocite crystals. From the famous Rocket Pocket in the Flambeau mine at Ladysmith, Wisconsin, USA, this deposit was mined for a number of years throughout the 1990s. The site at Ladysmith is now landscaped with no trace of the mine remaining. The Chalcocite crystals typically measure 5 mm wide at their base and taper to between 5 and 8 mm tall. The array of aligned crystals are tiered upwards over the specimen, culminating in a crude larger 1.3 x 1.3 x 0.4 cm crystal at the apex. A great specimen.
