The famous old copper mining town of Špania Dolina (Herrengrund) in central Slovakia dates back nearly a millenium and is notable for some iconic minerals. One of those - pale blue Celestine - was famous during the middle of the 1800s but specimens are now rarely seen available, except when older collections are recycled. This wonderful miniature specimen features small (1 to 4 mm) but perfectly formed glassy, tabular crystals of pale cornflower-blue Celestine lining a cavity in cream coloured carbonate (Calcite) veinstone. A pretty looking miniature, this also features notable patches of a dark grey Tetrahedrite Group species showing nicely its link to this historic copper mining district. An old-time classic, it bears a very old number label (no. 8) about which nothing is known and a no. 587 from Horst Wolle's collection.
