This superb miniature specimen is an excellent crystallized example of the mercury chloride mineral, Calomel, from its Type Locality at Landsberg (Moschellandsberg) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Having been in the collection of the renowned French mineralogist Jean Behier (1903-1965) it passed to Germany with three of his original labels (two tray labels and one affixed to the specimen). The Calomel occurs as dark brown to almost grey, translucent, well-formed bladed and more squat crystals up to 3 mm in length covering an area 3 x 2.5 cm in extent along a thin veinlet in rock matrix. This is really very rich and well crystallized for Calomel. A prestigious specimen of a European classic.
