Calomel, or mercury chloride, is a very relatively rare species on a world scale and has its Type Locality at Landsberg (Moschellandsberg) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This thumbnail specimen is from the Type Locality and consists of colourless, pale cream and slightly darker, waxy microcrystals of Calomel upon massive Cinnabar. Some of the larger crystals appear to have a white tarnish, or coating on the surface. The best crystals form a sharp cluster, just over 1 mm across, upon the tarnished surface of a larger, 3.5 mm wide crystal.
