Any mention of the Coronation Lode at Geevor mine near Land's End in Cornwall usually throws up visions of the unusual rosettes of thin, platy Calcite crystals for which it was famous during the 1980s. This fine display-sized piece comes from Bruce Grant's Collection, no. 256, and is recorded as having been collected in August 1980 from 15 Level on Coronation Lode. The base of the specimen is a bed of colour banded (but dominantly white) pyramidal Quartz crystals but these are totally coated with large (to over 2 cm across) rosettes of twisted platy pale cream to white Calcite crystals. The Calcite is not gemmy, but quite matt in appearance, and sparsely dotted with tiny cubic Pyrite crystals, but is in fine overall condition.
