A classic miniature specimen of intergrown Calcite crystals heavily included with light fawn and tan coloured fine grained sand from Fontainebleau in the Seine-et-Marne Department of France, approximately 60 km SSE of Paris. This form is termed Sand-Calcite and is instantly recognizable as from Fontainebleau. It is a fantastic example of a beautiful, symmetrically crystallized nodular cluster of Calcite crystals measuring overall to 4.5 cm. The specimen is a floater, i.e., a group of sharp, rhombic crystals with no visible point of attachment. Sand-Calcite is a fascinating variety of Calcite, especially when so beautifully crystallized. This occurrence has been known for several centuries and featured in an article in the Mineralogical Record in 2014 - Vol 45, No. 4.
