A good-size cabinet specimen of Calcite and Pyrite on Quartz from the Levant mine at Pendeen in Cornwall. The display face forms a boat-like profile with pointed bow and broad round stern. The matrix of crystallised greyish-colourless Quartz veinstone is completely coated with light-grey micro-crystals of Quartz over which are scattered relatively large Calcite crystals and delightful cubic and modified-cubic crystals of Pyrite. The Calcites are developed to 1.5 cm long and form simple barrel-shaped crystals, with little curvature to their sides, hence more cylindrical. This is a splendid and quite different specimen from Levant mine, who workings extended out under the Atlantic Ocean.
