When usually confronted with striking, vivid pink Calcite crystals due to the presence of cobalt, this extraordinary, gemmy, pale amber- to straw-coloured individual scalenohedral Calcite crystal from Mashamba West mine in Kolwezi mining district really stands out as something different. Its shape is magnificent, with exceptionally well-defined crystal faces and just the very slightest of chips to its termination. Its edges and sides are pristine. With good directional lighting this translucent to transparent crystal explodes into life, with magnificent internal reflections. Technically off-matrix, the rough, trimmed lower part of the crystal reveals a few, somewhat stalactitic inclusions, of pinkish-cream Dolomite encrusted with tiny colourless Calcite microcrystals. A really excellent Calcite from the DR Congo.
