For a common species such as Calcite these are undoubtedly quite small crystals, but this small cabinet-sized plate of Quartz, coated in many perfect nailhead-style Calcite crystals from 8 mm down to 3 mm in length is a very old one, and from the famous historic silver-mining region of Freiberg in Saxony, Germany. We know this from its two accompanying old handwritten labels which document not only the species and locality, but that it was a gift from Grand Duke Friedrich Franz in 1842.
