A quite extraordinary large cabinet specimen of two generations of twinned Calcite from the Santa Eulalia Mining District in Chihuahua, Mexico. This mining district is known for such specimens yet I personally have never handled one before now. The morphology is unusual to say the least, with what appears to be the later generation Calcite forming opaque to semi-translucent, dark chocolate brown narrow crystals. These form twinned crystals with colourless to smoky tinted Calcite, the latter forming about 70% of each twin’s volume. Crystals average 1 to 2 cm while a single, 6 cm tall twinned scalenohedral dominates, positioned at the centre of the display face.
