Very characteristic gemmy colourless to white crystals of Calcite measure to 6.2 cm from the Bigrigg Iron mining district in west Cumbria. The Calcite crystals are mainly transparent and lustrous, dominated by the steep pyramidal terminations developed on the pseudohexagonal prism faces and formed on a dark brown Goethite matrix. One Calcite crystal is double terminated lying across the specimen. This is a terrific west Cumbrian Calcite, with undamaged terminations and accompanied with a Melendy Mineral Museum label.
