Condition

Translucent, creamy-white curved rhombohedral Calcite crystals of typically 8 mm across form an impressive 5.5 x 3.5 cm hedgehog-like cluster with a silky, part scalenohedral 3.5 x 3.0 cm single Calcite crystal protruding from one side. This great Calcite was collected from the North Face on the Top Level of Taff’s Well quarry, a famous Calcite locality at Tongwynlais, close to the city of Cardiff in Wales. Calcite specimens from Taff’s Well adorn many a good collection, but few will have a specimen with this most untypical habit. Under LWUV the Calcite fluoresces dull yellowish buff.
