The iron mines of west Cumbria (then Cumberland) are famous for their world-class Calcite crystals. This single, ex. matrix terminated prism is a fine example of a parallel sided crystal and at $120 is ideal for either your very first west Cumbrian Calcite or as an interesting addition to an advanced British collection. The colourless crystal is perfectly transparent to the degree of gem quality, allowing fine print to be read through it with no impairment whatsoever. The prism faces alternate between broad and narrow, the former being mirror-like and gemmy, the latter rough, frosted and translucent. The termination is also naturally frosted yet perfectly formed.
