A characteristic Calcite miniature from Millclose mine at Wensley, South Darley in Derbyshire, England, approximately 4 km north-west of the town of Matlock. The double terminated crystals of gemmy to translucent Calcite measure up to 3.5 cm and emerge from a mixed crystallised to granular Calcite-Sphalerite matrix. Several of the Calcite crystals are also twinned as what are known as 'macles'. All have a bright, glassy, reflective lustre and show typical colouring for Derbyshire Calcite, grading from colourless and milky to pale golden tan, the latter is subtle in this specimen. This is a lovely example of Calcite from this most famous and important of Derbyshire localities.
