The Egremont mining district is well known for its production of fine Calcite specimens over the last two hundred years but these are now scarce. This great small miniature is, for its size, a lovely example with lustrous transparent gemmy Calcites to almost 2 cm intergrown to form the matrix. The largest crystal is an extremely complex crystal tinted pinkish-red by a speckled surface coating of finely disseminated Hematite and stands proud of the matrix. The specimen displays beautifully and is a lovely example of the magnificent Calcite these west Cumbrian mines have become so famous for.
