The original discovery, or Type Locality, of Brookite - titanium dioxide - is a small roadside quarry near Prenteg in north Wales, UK where it was first noted in 1809 in an illustration produced by James Sowerby. This thumbnail specimen features a freestanding 8 mm tall orange-brown platy Brookite crystal rising vertically from a small piece of matrix coated with Albite. The Brookite is missing one edge, but has a good termination and nice resinous lustre with classic vertical striations to the crystal faces. This small specimen is mounted on a small acrylic block for display and to protect the Brookite crystal. A really good sized crystal of this ultimate Welsh classic.
