Emerald, the green variety of the mineral species Beryl, is rarely found in flawless gem-quality crystals and even nicely coloured fractured crystals are rare on a world scale. The world's premier source is the Muzo mine in Boyacá Department, Colombia and good specimens are usually very expensive. This miniature specimen is, in my opinion, a really high quality Emerald for the price. It consists of white Calcite matrix upon which several amazingly glassy emerald green prismatic crystals of the most perfect colour sit. The largest crystal is 1.1 cm in length and 2.5 mm wide. It is a somewhat flattened crystal, but terminated, and the intensity of colour is remarkable and it is accompanied by several other smaller, but equally well coloured Emerald crystals. A very fine Emerald specimen indeed.
