This sweet miniature Beryl var. Aquamarine matrix specimen is simply provenanced to the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This centuries-old famous mining state has produced some of the world's finest gem minerals and often the specific source of specimens is never disclosed as the minerals and gems are marketed from larger towns dispersed across the region. Nevertheless, this is a nice piece, especially when one considers that 90 percent of gem minerals are individual crystals detached from matrix. This 4.6 cm long, gemmy Aquamarine crystal is still attached to a small piece of host rock. The Aquamarine is a greenish shade of blue and although it has a very glassy termination some of its prism sides are frosted. It has very nice character and is a great example of a Brazilian Beryl in pegmatite.
