Big, bold, and colourful is what this strikingly large gem quality Aquamarine Beryl is. It comes from a relatively modern find at Coronel Murta in the Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil, an area more famous for its strikingly colourful gem tourmaline crystals. From the outset it should be noted that this crystal is repaired in several places but it is so large (at 15 cm in length) for such an intensely coloured and optically clear, gem quality Aquamarine, that it is worthy of preserving in this way. Its termination is a flat pinacoid, but with a rough 'crazed' surface and short sloping pyramidal sides which are a classic feature of Brazilian Aquamarines. There is some damage to the termination where it has been repaired, but this crystal is so large that its statement comes from its length, striking transparency and rich colour, with most crystals of this optical quality chopped up into gemstones. Its prism sides are hexagonal in form and are exceptionally glassy with its base an uneven surface from where it would have been attached to the side of a pegmatite pocket. A truly colossal Brazilian gem Aquamarine that looks magnificent illuminated as the centrepiece of a showcase. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic display stand.
