A translucent, cornflower-blue crystal of Aquamarine, the blue variety of Beryl. From the Shaitanka District in the Middle Urals of Russia, this distorted hexagonal prism has one terminated end showing some conchoidal fracturing around its edges. The prism's colour grades from deep inky cornflower at the base to a much lighter cornflower blue, almost sky blue, towards the termination. The prism faces are naturally deeply etched and display excellent concave contoured structures reflecting the atomic composition of Beryl at the macro-scale. Aquamarine is rare from the Shaitanka District, so this is a really fine and unusual specimen. A great miniature Russian Aquamarine from the Middle Urals.
