An excellent cut and polished slice of pseudo-stalactitic Baryte measuring 14.7 cm long and a uniform 1.2 cm thick. Of ovoid shape and displaying concentric crystalline growth patterns to great advantage, the Baryte varies in shades between creamy-white, colourless, light salmon and light brown. This fine example of a true Derbyshire classic is from the Portaway mine, one of several mines which worked Dirtlow Rake, a richly mineralised vein between the villages of Bradwell and Sparrowpit in Derbyshire.
