This is quite a distinctive Baryte crystal cluster for the famous historic Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) mining region in Slovakia. Clearly quite old, it does display some minor scuffs to the edges of one or two crystals, but its overall form is really fine, forming a graceful 'open book', or 'flower' of clustered and stacked thin platy white crystals all of which present with a thin glistening coating of orange-brown Calcite microcrystals. In fact, any damage is usually to this outer Calcite crust, but is minimal in the context of how fine this is relative to how rare great crystallized Baryte clusters are from this important Eastern European mining area. Ex Schmitz Collection (no. 619), it bears this number as a very old-looking typed label affixed to the back of the specimen. Small cabinet in size, it presents rather well.
