The P'hla mine in the Schwarzenberg District of Saxony, Germany has produced an amazing variety of minerals and one much admired species from here is Baryte. This beautiful specimen has bright glassy golden Baryte crystals richly coating a roughly 6 x 5.5 cm thick plate of cryptocrystalline creamy to pale green Fluorite. The Baryte crystals are typically around 1 cm wide at their terminations and tend to have translucent cores with quite gemmy, transparent faces. The Baryte is a uniform deep golden-amber with a brilliant glassy lustre, so characteristic of this mine. A fantastic golden Baryte from P'hla in Saxony.
