Outside of Cumbria, Wet Grooves mine in the Yorkshire Dales has produced some of the finest English Baryte specimens. This large cabinet display specimen is a superb example of what has been found at Wet Grooves. Sitting like a hedgehog, this very heavy aggregate of pure Baryte is made up of sharp, bladed crystals, many reaching 5 cm in length. The crystals are the typical cream colour associated with this mine and really quite lustrous. There is damage to some of the crystals and the specimen needs to be handled carefully due to its own weight and the thinness of some of the Baryte crystals. However, on balance, this is an extremely high quality large display Baryte from Wet Grooves mine, and not many of this size have made it to the surface.
