This fine, 8.5 cm tall, wedge-shaped, grey, translucent bladed/tabular Baryte crystal is a classic and very typical of the form of Baryte crystal found at Silverband mine in Cumbria, England. Ex Lindsay Greenbank Collection, no. LG.244, with his original label, along with a note from the British Museum (Natural History) stating that it was from the Department of Mineralogy. It is in great overall condition with very little of the chipping or scratching so often seen on the crystals from Silverband mine. It was acquired by Lindsay Greenbank from the museum in 1973, suggesting that it had only recently entered the museum, or was from the earlier underground workings at Silverband. Latterly, it was in the Dr Stephen Crook Collection.
