This excellent cabinet specimen of Azurite with Malachite from Bisbee is ex. the E.O. Stratton Collection and is accompanied with an old Kristalle-Crystal Classics label. Bright, lustrous dark blue Azurite crystals cover almost the entire surface of a limonitic, rusty gossan. This is peppered with hollow conical mounds which protrude up amongst the copper mineralisation, appearing like miniature volcanic cones. I believe these to be epimorphs after Calcite, but maybe a Bisbee expert knows better? Much of the Azurite is masked by overgrowths of lichen-like Malachite in a shade of uniform matt, pastel peppermint green. Examined under low magnification the Malachite adopts an octahedral or part octahedral form, likely coating micro-crystals of Cuprite.
