Considering this specimen is a relatively small miniature, it’s comprised of relatively large and fine Azurite crystals and is from the Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia. Tsumeb is one of the most famous specimen mines in the world and in most people’s opinions ranks within the top ten. The Azurite forms blocky crystals, some with almost a cubic resemblance and the largest measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm. Several other similar yet smaller crystals are clustered around. The crystals are in generally opaque, but with outer translucent zones in transmitted light. Typical of such crystals from Tsumeb, the Azurite appears an intense navy blue, almost black en masse, but where transmitted can pass through, glow stunning electric blue.
