Milpillas mine at Cuitaca, Sonora, Mexico is a relative newcomer to the exceptional mineral scene, but boy has it made up for lost time! The mineral for which this mine is now etched into legendary mineralogical status is Azurite. Interestingly, it is not the overall size of its crystals that make this mine so famous, but their perfection in shape combined with their sumptuous 'wet' lustre. This quite large display specimen presents a 'ridge' of matrix upon which 8 or 9 really fine large (between 1.4 and 1.9 cm in length) individual Azurite crystals sit along one edge. These crystals display the classic 'curved' tabular bladed habit for which Milpillas is known and are all in excellent condition. Ex Jesse Fisher and Joan Kureczka Collection this is from pre-2015 operations at the mine. This specimen comes with a custom-made acryllic display stand.
