Artinite, a rare magnesium carbonate hydroxide hydrate typically found in serpentinized rocks, is best known from the locality of the same name, Artinite pit, Picacho Peak in San Benito Co., California, USA. Artinite pit is not the Type Locality, but is where the world's richest specimens were found from the 1970s onwards. This small cabinet-sized specimen is a great example of this richness, presenting a large coverage of rounded, 'puffball'-like, silky white, finely acicular sprays of Artinite coating and cementing matrix. From the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
